University of California, Berkeley will hold their all-major graduation ceremony at California Memorial Stadium, 2227 Piedmont Ave, Berkeley, CA 94720 on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10am. Specific major graduations will come the following week. Families of UC Berkeley’s Class of 2017 are all looking forward to their graduate’s big day coming in spring as they’re making plans to accommodate for that weekend. There will be around 7,000 students graduating in May 2017, making commencement one of the busiest weekends on the Berkeley campus this year.
The UC Berkeley graduation ceremony will last about 2.5 hours. The 2017 commencement speaker has yet to be announced and could affect traffic in the area. Attendees are expected to be sitting for a long period, so it is advised to bring sunscreen and a hat. Families can get tickets from their student and are $10 for up to 15 guests. You may purchase your Wednesday, March 15. If remaining guest tickets are available on the day of commencement, then they can be purchased at the entrance of Memorial Stadium. Children age 2 and under have free admission.
Although the UC Berkeley campus parking lots (http://www.berkeley.edu/map) will be open to attendees and families, availability is based on first-come, first serve. The closest parking structure is the Stadium Parking Structure (https://lots.impark.com/imp#details=37,386), located at 2175 Gayley Rd Berkeley, CA 94720, (415) 813-4365 with about 450 spots. On the day of graduation, a shuttle service is also available to guests around the Berkeley campus, free of charge for graduating seniors wearing cap and gown or with ID as well as their families. There will also be golf cart services around campus for senior citizens requiring assistance. You may catch a Cal Bear Transit shuttle eastbound near the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Many families will use rideshare technologies such as Uber or Lyft in order to avoid the heavy parking traffic on the Berkeley campus, which is a strong option on commencement weekend.
